On Friday, December 13, three bands with deep ties to Montreal’s rock legacy will converge at Petit Campus for a night that underscores the enduring strength of the local scene.
Vinyl Hero, a power trio whose sound draws comparisons to Queens of the Stone Age and Stone Temple Pilots, headlines the event. Comprised of Ray Howard (vocals/guitar), Tiburce Perlau (drums), and Costa Siarlis (bass), the band blends heavy rock riffs with dynamic, emotionally charged arrangements. Having toured extensively across Ontario and Quebec in 2023—playing venues like Toronto’s Horseshoe Tavern and opening for Canadian stalwarts Finger Eleven—they’re poised to release new material in 2024. Their latest single, Getting Lost, produced by Dave Traina (The Damn Truth) and mastered by Harry Hess, has cemented their reputation for crafting meticulously layered tracks.
Joining them is Pacer, a Montreal outfit that formed in 1997 and built a loyal following before stepping away from the scene. Known for their appearances at events like the Vans Warped Tour, they’ve shared stages with acts such as Trapt and Dredg. Their return in 2024 marks a significant comeback, bringing their distinctive alt-rock sound back to audiences who’ve missed their high-energy performances.
Rounding out the lineup is The Era Of, a progressive rock band whose members boast pedigrees in groups like Cryptopsy and A Texas Funeral. After a hiatus beginning in 2016, they’re back with their signature mix of intricate buildups and anthemic choruses, a style often compared to A Perfect Circle and Rush. Their EP Pelican Beach is a testament to their ability to weave technical prowess with emotional resonance.
Doors open at 8:30 PM, with the show kicking off at 9:00 PM. Tickets are $20 and available online.
