Kraftwerk Celebrates 50 Years of Autobahn with Montreal Show

Kraftwerk, pioneers of electronic music, have announced their Multimedia Tour 2025, marking the 50th anniversary of their groundbreaking album Autobahn. The tour, which will visit 25 cities across North America, promises an immersive blend of music, visuals, and performance art, staying true to Kraftwerk’s signature multimedia approach. Montreal fans can catch the innovative group on March 10, 2025, as they take the stage at Place des Arts.

The tour begins March 6 in Philadelphia and includes stops in major cities like Toronto, New York, and Chicago. Notably, the band will also perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, on April 13 and 20. This marks Kraftwerk’s third appearance at the festival, further cementing their enduring relevance in the music world.

Kraftwerk’s live performances have long been described as a “Gesamtkunstwerk”—a total work of art—integrating sound, visuals, and thematic concepts. Their 2025 tour is expected to continue this tradition, offering a celebration not only of Autobahn but of their legacy as architects of modern electronic music. In a recent press statement, Ralf Hütter, the band’s co-founder and the sole remaining original member, emphasized the ongoing synergy between technology and artistry in their work.

The tour announcement was accompanied by a video created by legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk, a long-time Kraftwerk fan. Hawk’s involvement highlights the band’s influence beyond the realm of music, touching broader cultural spheres.

Earlier this year, Kraftwerk concluded a nine-night residency at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, which received critical acclaim and set high expectations for the upcoming tour.

Kraftwerk, founded in Düsseldorf in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider, revolutionized music with their use of synthesizers, drum machines, and computerized rhythms. Their influence spans genres, shaping everything from techno and synth-pop to hip-hop. A Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014 recognized their unparalleled contribution to modern music.

Tickets for the Multimedia Tour 2025 go on sale December 13, with a presale starting December 11. For Montrealers, it’s a rare chance to experience a group that has defined and redefined the soundscape of the digital age.
