Looks like Montreal’s music scene just got a fresh face – or rather, two faces. The Mirrors, a brand new post-punk duo with a sound that’s equal parts intriguing and catchy, are gearing up to unleash their debut LP, “Temple,” on May 17th.
Hugo Joyal and Natalie Talbot, the creative minds behind The Mirrors, aren’t afraid to play in the sandbox. Their music swirls with fuzzy guitar riffs, washes of synths, and Talbot’s vocals that hang dreamily in the mix. It’s a sound that’ll have you reminiscing about 80s new wave and post-punk one minute, then tossing some unexpected surf rock vibes your way the next.

You could call them indie, rock, or alternative – maybe even throw in some “cold wave” for good measure. But labels don’t quite capture what The Mirrors are doing here. This is about crafting melodic tunes that stick in your head, all while showcasing some serious musical chops. They’re not afraid to deconstruct genres, building something fresh and exciting in their wake.
The experimentation doesn’t stop at instrumentation either. Classical flourishes weave in and out of the electronic soundscapes, giving “Temple” a dynamic range that keeps things interesting.
