The Ghost Inside + Paleface Swiss + Bleed from Within + Great American Ghost @ Mtelus

Monday, April 29th, was a wonderful day for comebacks. It was the first time The Ghost Inside performed as a headliner in Montreal since their unfortunate accident in 2015. Luckily, they have been back on their feet and taking numbers. Tonight, they performed at MTelus in Montreal with the help of a few friends. Let’s see how the night went.

First off, we had Great American Ghost, a hardcore/metalcore outfit from Boston, Massachusetts. They came out guns blazing performing a 7-song set that melted our faces off. They played their new single “Hymn of Decay” which was released the next day, along with an announcement they were joining Shapetone Records family. I really enjoyed their energy and can’t wait to see them again. Definitely check ’em out.

The night was off to a great start it was now time for Scottish metalcore vets Bleed from Within. The energy in the room was palpable, from their first note bodies were flying left and right! So many body surfers made it for an interesting time trying to take photos in the pit. Their lights were somber but the riffs were hard hitting and the screams were bone chilling. I really enjoyed their performances of “Sovereign” and “The End is all We Know.” Solid show for the boys from Glasgow.

Now the crowd was really warmed up, many fans I spoke with were excited for this relatively new deathcore band from Switzerland, Paleface Swiss. Let’s just say they didn’t disappoint! Their 45-minute set included “The Orphan,” “Deathtouch,” and “The Gallow.” The fans were eating it up like a good Swiss cheese of metal fun! This band is tight; hard to believe they have only been touring for 2 years. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

It was finally time for Virgil and the boys to hit the stage. As the lights dimmed, a track was playing with excerpts of the band’s well-documented accident. It was bone-chilling to relive those moments. I applaud them for making this part of their identity and not shying away from what must have been a very traumatic event in their lives. The courage they have is incredible, and everyone in the room was very grateful for this opportunity to enjoy live music from their favourite band. For me, it’s been almost 10 years since I last saw them at Vans Warped in 2014; I missed their opening set during the Underoath tour, so needless to say, I was excited. They started off their set with “Engine 45” and “Unspoken,” a solid start to a seventeen-song set full of hard-hitting bangers, including 4 songs from their newly released album Searching For Solace. Singer Virgil was in fine form, with the band just being in sync all night. To end the night, they perform the highly cathartic banger from 2020, “The Aftermath.”

What a night, safe to say that TGI is back and just killing it and bringing along great bands for the ride! Let’s keep the momentum going and see ya next time boys.
