Basia Bulat Reworks Basia’s Palace on New EP ‘Bouquet’

Basia Bulat will release a new EP, Bouquet, on August 28 through Secret City Records. The five-song set gathers acoustic reworkings of material from her recent album Basia’s Palace, recorded in Montreal’s Mile End with engineer Andrew Woods after a long stretch of touring.

Bulat built the EP by stripping the songs back to their core elements: voice, guitar and autoharp. Freed from the fuller electric arrangements she had been playing live over the past year, the melodies and emotional weight of the originals settle into new shapes. Bouquet reimagines “Right Now,” “My Angel,” “Disco Polo,” “Baby” and “Laughter,” with Drew Jurecka’s string arrangements reworked throughout and “Laughter” given an entirely new arrangement by Kieran Poile. Naomi McCarroll-Butler adds wind instrumentation across the collection, while longtime collaborators Ben Whiteley and Joshua Toal revisit the material on double bass and classical guitar. Andrew Woods and Howard Bilerman handled the mix.

Bulat has described “Right Now” as the natural opener. “I always imagine a child handing me a bouquet when I hear the first chords of this recording, a handful of wildflowers picked on the walk to the park,” she said, framing the EP as a small, hand-made gift meant for quiet evenings and everyday moments. She positions Bouquet as a companion piece to The Garden.

The release lands in the middle of a heavy Quebec touring season. Bulat plays FEQ in Quebec City on July 18, then returns to Montreal for POP Montreal on September 25 and the Maison de la culture Marie-Uguay on October 3, with a Verdun date at Quai 5160 on October 23. A wider run of solo shows follows across Canada and the United States into 2027.
