After four decades of slapping bass in one of rock’s most enduring acts, Flea is stepping into unfamiliar territory: fronting his own jazz ensemble, and doing it without a bass in his hands.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers co-founder has confirmed a solo tour in support of Honora, his debut full-length album under his own name, with Canadian stops planned for Toronto and Montreal. While specific dates and venues remain unannounced, the trek will also hit Chicago, New York, Washington, Los Angeles, and several European cities including Berlin, Amsterdam, London, and Paris.
The tour lineup offers a clue to Flea’s evolving musical identity. Backed by Anna Butterss on bass, Deantoni Parks on drums, Jeff Parker on guitar, and Josh Johnson on saxophone, the bassist will likely spend most of the tour playing trumpet. “Beautiful guests” are also promised, according to an Instagram post from the musician. It’s a bold pivot for someone whose percussive bass style helped define funk-rock for a generation.
Honora arrives via Nonesuch Records sometime in early 2026 and leans heavily into jazz tradition while nodding to Flea’s broader influences. The tracklist spans three vinyl sides and includes originals alongside covers of Funkadelic’s “Maggot Brain,” Glen Campbell’s “Wichita Lineman,” Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin Bout You,” and the standard “Willow Weep for Me.” Lead single “A Plea” has already been released.
While this marks Flea’s first proper solo album, it’s not his first jazz outing. He released the five-track Helen Burns EP in 2012, but Honora represents a more ambitious statement, featuring contributions from a who’s who of contemporary jazz and experimental players including Rickey Washington, Vikram Devasthali, and Mauro Refosco.
