Corrosion Of Conformity have wrapped recording on their first studio album since No Cross No Crown and confirmed that it will be a double album. The record is now in the mixing phase, with a release planned for next year.
To mark the moment, the band have shared a special jam-session rendition of “Fire And Water,” the classic 1970 song by English rock band Free. The track is the first installment of what they are calling the Riffissippi Studio Jam Sessions, a series of spontaneous interpretations of songs by some of their favourite artists.
Guitarist and vocalist Pepper Keenan explained how the session came together: “When we were tracking this record, we had a very cool space set up where we would essentially hang in the large room with everything mic’d and everything we needed, including a turntable and a bunch of our favourite records, which we would play and chill out between takes.
We were hanging together, and I pulled out a Free album and ‘Fire And Water’ popped up. [Drummer] Stanton [Moore] jumped up immediately and said, ‘Who the fuck is that!?’ He had never heard it before. We were baffled, but it was awesome to us that he had never heard it. He said, ‘Let’s cut that!’ … We went for it and had a blast doing it. It was a nice fun break from the recording. It’s nothing too serious, just a bunch of fellas leaning into it, loving the rock.”
The new album will be the band’s first release since lineup changes that saw bassist Mike Dean depart in 2024, with Bobby Landgraf stepping in on bass duties. Drummer Stanton Moore also handled drums on the sessions.
Corrosion Of Conformity are currently on a North American tour supporting Judas Priest and Alice Cooper, with a Toronto stop scheduled for September 29 at Budweiser Stage. The run continues through November, including a headline slot at the UK’s Damnation Festival.
