Pierre Kwenders, the Polaris Prize-winning musician, is set to release his latest EP “Tears On The Dancefloor” on February 26 through Moonshine. The Montreal-based artist has unveiled “Everyday,” a collaboration with Nigerian vocalist Lady Donli and Ghanaian producer Gafacci, as the second single from the forthcoming project.
The new EP marks Kwenders’ first collection since his acclaimed 2022 album “José Louis And The Paradox Of Love,” which earned him Canada’s prestigious Polaris Music Prize. While that record explored broader themes, “Tears On The Dancefloor” takes a more intimate approach, focusing on the intersection of electronic music and personal connection.
“Everyday,” which opens the EP, follows the release of the first single “We Like” featuring Poté. The track exemplifies Kwenders’ continued exploration of cross-continental collaboration, blending his Congolese roots with contemporary electronic production. This marks his second time working with Lady Donli, building upon their previous musical partnership.

Born José Louis Modabi in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kwenders moved to Montreal in 2001. His musical journey began with 2014’s “Le Dernier Empereur Bantou,” followed by “MAKANDA at the End of Space, the Beginning of Time” in 2017. Both releases earned Polaris Prize nominations, establishing him as a significant voice in Canada’s music landscape.
The new EP represents a shift from the expansive scope of his previous work, focusing instead on the more immediate experiences of nightlife and human connection. Through this lens, Kwenders examines themes of vulnerability and self-discovery within the context of club culture.
“Tears On The Dancefloor” arrives as Kwenders continues to gain recognition for his work. His previous album was shortlisted for the JUNO Award for Global Music Album of the Year, further cementing his position in Canada’s diverse musical landscape.
