Montreal artist APACALDA dropped her new single “Jealous” today, tackling the messy realities of romantic fixation. The track offers the first taste of her upcoming album “There’s a Shadow in My Room And it Isn’t Mine,” set to release June 13th, 2025.
Teaming up with producer Mishka Stein, whose credits include Patrick Watson and TEKE::TEKE, APACALDA, aka Cassandra Angheluta, digs into territory most Valentine’s Day releases dodge: the gnawing feeling of jealousy in relationships. The production brings Stein’s signature bass work front and centre, weaving through moments of tension and release that mirror the song’s emotional landscape.
“There’s a moment where you know better, but you do it anyway,” Angheluta says about the track’s central theme. “This song lives in that space—where jealousy takes over, and for just a second, you let yourself be consumed by it because it feels almost in a way, so satisfying.”

Mixed by Samuel Woywitka, known for his work with Half Moon Run, “Jealous” marks a shift from APACALDA’s earlier dreamier sound. Here, she strips away the layers to confront relationship insecurity head-on. The song’s structure feels almost tidal – pulling back before crashing forward again, much like the cycles of jealousy itself.
Landing just ahead of Valentine’s Day, “Jealous” stands apart from the usual romantic fare flooding playlists this time of year. Rather than sugar-coating relationships, APACALDA – whose name means “warm water” in Romanian – dives into murkier emotional waters.
The single suggests a promising direction for her upcoming full-length album. Through “Jealous,” APACALDA demonstrates her knack for transforming uncomfortable truths about modern relationships into compelling musical narratives.
