Kings of Leon have resurfaced from their creative cocoon to unveil details of their highly anticipated ninth studio album, Can We Please Have Fun. Set to drop on May 10th, this offering marks their inaugural venture with Capitol Records, signalling a new chapter for the seasoned rockers.
Produced under the guiding hand of the revered Kid Harpoon, known for his work with musical heavyweights like Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus, Can We Please Have Fun promises a departure from the band’s signature seriousness. Vocalist Caleb Followill candidly shares, “It was the most enjoyable record I’ve ever been a part of,” while drummer Nathan Followill reflects, “It’s like we allowed ourselves to be musically vulnerable. I love it when a rock band is not embarrassed to admit that every song doesn’t have to be on 11.”
The album’s lead single, “Mustang,” serves as a tantalizing appetizer, showcasing Kings of Leon’s knack for crafting infectious melodies layered with introspective lyricism. With Caleb Followill’s soulful croon navigating through a bluesy landscape, the track invites listeners to ponder the age-old question: Are you a mustang or a kitty?
