ZOKALO, a new Montreal band, play their first show on Saturday, July 11 at Cafe La Ligne Verte, the small room at 2531 Rue Ontario Est in the city’s east end. The set starts at 5:30 PM.
The band works in three languages, writing in English, Spanish and French, and places its sound somewhere between alternative rock and indie pop, with dark wave and electronic textures running underneath. Its stated touchstones are broad, taking in modern alt-pop, gothic rock and Latin songwriting, which points more toward mood than any single genre.
Saturday is the band’s live debut, and the set leans on originals including “Don’t F*ck It Again,” “The Blue Lovers” and “Quiero Buscarte.” Three singles are already out and streaming via linktr.ee/zokalo, the only recorded material available ahead of the show.
