YHWH Nailgun brought their tightly wound experimental rock to La Sala Rossa on September 17, with Montreal’s Nudo opening the evening.
The New York-based quartet of vocalist Zack Borzone, drummer Sam Pickard, synth player Jack Tobias and guitarist Saguiv Rosenstock began as an experimental project between Borzone and Pickard in Philadelphia before expanding into its current form. Their latest album, Magazine, followed the 2025 debut 45 Pounds, packing another dense collection of rhythms, distorted textures and abrupt ideas into a remarkably short runtime.

Onstage, the group are known for playing with few pauses, turning Pickard’s pounding drums and distinctive rototoms into the foundation for Tobias’ synths, Rosenstock’s heavily processed guitar and Borzone’s guttural shrieks, gasps and physical performance. The individual parts can be difficult to separate, with the four musicians operating less like a conventional rock band and more like one restless, precisely coordinated organism. It is controlled chaos built for a small room, which made La Sala Rossa an appropriate setting.
