Voivod have released Symphonique, a live album recorded with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, out now worldwide through Century Media Records.
The album documents the band’s June 4, 2025 performance at the Grand Théâtre de Québec, where the Jonquière-formed metal veterans played a career-spanning set backed by the full orchestra. The recording runs 12 songs across 73 minutes, with symphonic arrangements written by Hugo Begin.
The setlist reaches back across the band’s four-decade catalogue. It includes “The Unknown Knows” and “Into My Hypercube” from 1989’s Nothingface, “Tribal Convictions” from Dimension Hatröss, “Forgotten in Space” from Killing Technology, and more recent material such as “The End of Dormancy.” The set closes with the band’s long-running cover of Pink Floyd’s “Astronomy Domine,” a song Voivod first recorded on Nothingface.
Drummer and founding member Michel “Away” Langevin called the project “a longtime dream turned reality.”
For a band that built its reputation on angular riffs, odd time signatures and science-fiction concept records, the orchestral setting is less of a stretch than it might appear; the prog instincts have been there since the late 1980s. This release also continues a strong run for the band, who remain one of Quebec’s most internationally respected metal exports.
Symphonique is available on CD, digital, and gatefold double vinyl in black, yellow, and orange pressings. The band begins a European tour this month in support of the release.
