Veeze + Talibando @ Le Studio TD

Veeze’s debut show in Montreal was one for the books, that’s for sure. As I made my way to Le Studio TD on Tuesday night, the aroma of his fans indulging outside the jam-packed venue hit me from blocks away. Veeze’s music, a seamless fusion of singing and rapping with a nonchalant vibe, often delves into drug use, a theme evidently shared by his enthusiastic audience.

The evening kicked off with Talibando gracing the stage for what might’ve been the shortest set I’ve witnessed. He treated the crowd to his chart-toppers, “E S 7 M Freestyle” and “Millions,” featuring the headliner. The audience lapped it up, belting out the lyrics, though many wished for a few more tunes. Even at this early juncture, some concert-goers began lighting up inside, leading to a couple of ejections.

During the interlude, the DJ spun a perfect mix, ensuring the energy never waned. Classics like Chief Keef’s “Don’t Like” and Lucki’s “New Drank” kept the crowd hyped, compensating for Talibando’s brevity. Certain tracks, like Playboi Carti’s “Stop Breathing,” even birthed impromptu mosh pits, despite no live act on stage.

Then came Veeze, sporting a fur hat, a vibrant blue jacket, and clear lens glasses, a departure from typical rapper attire. He belted out all his hits, captivating the audience from start to finish. By this point, plumes of smoke hovered above both the floor and balcony, adding to the ambiance. Standout performances included “GOMD” and “Safe 2,” both from his sophomore album. Despite his usual laid-back demeanour, Veeze commanded the stage until the very end, culminating with my personal favourite, “Fire Drill.” The crowd knew every word, making for a flawless conclusion to an exceptionally unique show.
