Toronto-based artist Tamara Lindeman, who records under the name The Weather Station, has announced the release of her new album Humanhood set to drop on January 17, 2025, via Next Door Records. The announcement comes alongside the release of the lead single and video, “Neon Signs.”
Humanhood follows Lindeman’s critically acclaimed 2021 album Ignorance, which garnered attention for its blend of avant-folk and commentary on personal and climate-related grief. Despite the success of Ignorance, Lindeman was privately facing a mental health crisis throughout its release, which ultimately informed the writing process for Humanhood.
In a statement, Lindeman explains the context of the new single: “‘Neon Signs’ came from a place of feeling disoriented, like I was cut off from everything, even my own desires. The song reflects that sense of confusion, especially in a world that bombards you with contradictions, whether it’s advertising in the middle of a climate emergency or coercion hidden in relationships.”
The video for “Neon Signs,” directed by Lindeman, takes viewers through a series of shifting perspectives, exploring disconnection and how reality can sometimes seem warped through different lenses. The track sets the tone for Humanhood, an album that Lindeman describes as a journey from dissociation back to connection, both with herself and the world around her.

Recorded over two sessions in fall 2023 at Canterbury Music Company in Toronto, the album features contributions from several collaborators, including drummer Kieran Adams, reed specialist Karen Ng, and guitarist James Elkington. Co-produced by Marcus Paquin, the album experiments with texture and sound, blending organic and synthetic elements to reflect the emotional turbulence of the period in which it was written.
Humanhood looks to continue Lindeman’s exploration of personal and collective unease in the face of global crises, offering a musical reflection on the challenges of staying grounded when everything feels uncertain.
