Montreal-based producer Super Plage, real name Jules Henry, releases his new album GROSSE MAISON this Friday, May 16, via Lisbon Lux Records. The nine-track collection marks the artist’s fifth full-length since launching the project in 2019, and continues his deepening exploration of francophone electronic pop.
A Rimouski native now living in Montreal, Henry is known for crafting breezy, bass-driven tracks with a clear nod to nu-disco and the French touch tradition. On GROSSE MAISON, he doubles down on those reference points while adding elements of house, drum and bass, and funk to the mix. The album’s title, which loosely translates to “big house,” plays on this genre fusion, and the record feels purpose-built for parties—both in concept and in sound.
Guests from the local scene help build out the sonic architecture. Frequent collaborator Virginie B appears on multiple tracks, including the eponymous opener “GROSSE MAISON” and the dancefloor-ready “MIROIRS,” which also features L’isle. Claudia Bouvette lends vocals to “DEADLINES,” while pataugeoire shows up on the high-BPM cut “LE GRIND.”
Not everything here is club-focused. “1990” dials back the tempo and leans into nostalgia, with Super Plage’s vocals drifting somewhere between spoken word and breathy melody. The result evokes Sébastien Tellier more than Daft Punk. Other songs highlight the project’s more experimental edges: “JAUNE” was reportedly written and recorded in a single day in the Eastern Townships, and the minimalist instrumental “CHILL” took just 30 minutes to assemble.
The album arrives alongside a listening party tonight at the Pony boutique on Plaza Saint-Hubert, starting at 6 p.m., and precedes a summer tour that includes two appearances at Les Francos de Montréal (June 18 and 19) as well as dates across Quebec and France.
Super Plage’s last album, Magie à minuit, was nominated for Electronic Album of the Year at the ADISQ Gala. With GROSSE MAISON, he continues to carve out space for French-language dance music that’s playful, collaborative, and unafraid to experiment—whether on the couch, in the studio, or in the middle of the dancefloor.
