Steven Wilson Announces Montreal Show – Win Tickets!

Steven Wilson, one of the modern era’s most prolific and genre-defying musicians, has announced the release of his eighth solo album, The Overview, slated for March 14, 2025, via Fiction Records. Known for his genre-fluid explorations, Wilson’s latest work marks a return to the progressive rock stylings that first solidified his reputation as an innovator.

The Overview is a 42-minute concept album composed of two sprawling tracks: the 23-minute “Objects Outlive Us” and the 18-and-a-half-minute title track. The album draws inspiration from the “Overview Effect,” a psychological shift experienced by astronauts who view Earth from space, described by Wilson as “a recognition of our planet’s beauty and fragility, but also its insignificance in the cosmic scale.”

Musically, The Overview channels elements of classic progressive titans like Pink Floyd and Tangerine Dream while reframing them through a contemporary lens. The album also features regular Wilson collaborators Craig Blundell (drums), Adam Holzman (keyboards), and Randy McStine (guitar). Adding a personal touch, Wilson’s wife Rotem provides spoken word passages on the title track, narrating the names of celestial phenomena such as the Virgo supercluster and Eridanus supervoid. Additionally, XTC’s Andy Partridge contributed lyrics to a segment of “Objects Outlive Us.”

Montreal fans will have the chance to experience Wilson live when he takes the stage at MTELUS on September 25, 2025, as part of his newly announced tour.

Ahead of its release, The Overview will premiere at London’s BFI IMAX on February 25, where Wilson will present the album in immersive audio, accompanied by a film from Miles Skarin. This multimedia approach underscores the conceptual depth Wilson has infused into the project.

Wilson’s emphasis on technical detail and immersive experiences extends to the album’s formats, which will include standard CD, blu-ray, vinyl, and a deluxe art book edition featuring additional material, including an orchestral version of “Objects Outlive Us.”
