Quebec Punks Drop It First Announce Debut Album

Quebec City’s punk rock scene is set for a jolt with Drop It First, a new band featuring members of Our Darkest Days and Go Great Guns. Their debut single, “Where The Wind Blows,” dropped this week with an accompanying video, marking the start of a fresh chapter for Quebec’s melodic punk soundscape. The track channels themes of loss, resilience, and a gritty determination to push through personal grief.

Formed in early 2023, Drop It First emerged when Vince Fournier and Jam Gosselin—Our Darkest Days’ vocalist and bassist—joined forces with guitarist Mathieu Hébert. Hébert, who had been writing a series of punk-driven, high-energy songs, brought them to Fournier and Gosselin. The two were instantly drawn in, and the trio decided to put together a lineup for a new project. By spring, they had enlisted drummer Jo Thivierge, known for his work with Persistence and Exhibition, and completed the group with lead guitarist Maxime Larouche, whose energetic style added the final layer.

Described as raw yet melodic, “Where The Wind Blows” showcases the group’s knack for weaving emotional depth into punk’s traditionally aggressive sound. Gosselin’s basslines ground Hébert’s and Larouche’s guitar riffs, while Fournier’s vocals carry a sombre intensity, reflecting the track’s themes of enduring strength amid loss. Thivierge’s drumming adds a sharp, driving rhythm, giving the song an edge that aligns with the band’s commitment to a classic punk ethos. The music video underscores the song’s themes, following a narrative of resilience and personal reflection.

“Fundamentals,” the band’s debut album, is slated for release on January 17, 2025, through independent label Thousand Islands Records. It will feature a blend of songs crafted by the collective experience of these seasoned musicians, whose backgrounds span over ten albums, a dozen EPs, and an extensive live performance history.
