ONI Releases New EP, ‘Genesis’

Jake Oni, the driving force behind Canadian metal outfit ONI, has unveiled Genesis, a five-track EP that showcases the band’s evolving sound. Released earlier today, the project consolidates the momentum Oni has built over the past few years, with singles like “Deja Vu” and “Walk Away” leading the charge.

Genesis represents a stylistic shift for ONI, blending alt-metal anthems with the group’s signature fusion of progressive intricacy and raw intensity. Produced by Josh Gilbert, bassist of Spiritbox, the EP leans into melodic hooks without sacrificing the heavy edge that has defined ONI’s trajectory since their 2016 debut, Ironshore. The new collection also includes “Erase,” a standout track accompanied by a visual release that underscores its cathartic weight.

In a statement, Jake Oni described the EP as a personal milestone: “Genesis is a huge step up for me. It feels like the most complete body of work I’ve done so far. I’ve put so much into these songs, and I’m excited to see how fans connect with ‘Erase,’ which holds a special meaning for me.”

ONI’s rise in the metal scene has been marked by relentless creativity and high-profile collaborations. From working with Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe on Ironshore to teaming up with Iggy Pop and Howard Jones for tracks on 2022’s Loathing Light, Oni’s knack for pairing heavy soundscapes with unexpected partnerships has set the band apart. Last year’s The Silver Line expanded that ethos, featuring names like Kellin Quinn and Sueco while diving further into accessible yet dynamic territory.

Since forming in 2014, ONI has shared stages with heavyweights such as Gojira, Megadeth, and the Devin Townsend Project. The Genesis EP continues that trajectory, offering a concise yet impactful showcase of Jake Oni’s vision for the band’s future.

Genesis is now available across all major streaming platforms.
