Montreal’s Musique Nomade is set to bring its acclaimed Stopover Program to its home city for the first time, following years of connecting with Indigenous artists in remote communities across Quebec. The program, which offers mobile recording studios, video production, and career development resources, has become a cultural catalyst since its launch in 2011. Now, with a June showcase planned at Club Soda, the label is spotlighting a new generation of Indigenous artists reshaping the province’s musical landscape.
Since its founding in 2006, Musique Nomade has operated as a non-profit label and production house focused on Indigenous talent. Their mobile Stopover sessions have reached artists in communities like Wemotaci, Manawan, and Opitciwan—providing not just equipment and expertise, but a platform to record and release music without leaving home. These sessions culminate in collaborative compilation albums under the On the Road series, with the latest edition, On the Road – Wemotaci, released in April 2025.

The album features emerging Atikamekw rap collective FDA (Fiers d’être autochtones), whose track “Kecko minat” pulses with urgency and pride. Other contributors include Kris Kinokewin, Myrann Newashish, and SKL, blending genres from hip hop to folk with traditional influences. It’s a testament to what’s possible when access and autonomy align.
To mark the occasion, Musique Nomade and SiriusXM Canada will present Nikamotan MTL at Club Soda on June 11. The showcase includes performances by Soleil Launière, Anachnid, Eadsé, Nukad, Dominique Fils-Aimée, and others connected to Musique Nomade’s artist roster and Nikamowin, the Indigenous-led streaming platform launched by the label.

As the label shifts some focus toward urban artists, the Stopover Program’s expansion into Montreal marks a turning point. “We’re proud to bring the energy of the Stopover program home,” said Artistic Director Joëlle Robillard. “This city has always supported innovation and cultural dialogue, and now we get to highlight the voices of Indigenous artists who are transforming the future of music right here at home.”
Tickets are available now. On the Road – Wemotaci is streaming everywhere.
