As they prepare for a whirlwind European tour this spring, Montreal’s post-punk emissaries, The City Gates, have released their most recent musical offering, “Lapidation,” along with a mesmerizing music video. Released through a collaboration between Icy Cold Records and Velouria Recordz, “Lapidation” emerges as the second single from their forthcoming album, slated for release later this year.
The track itself is a sonic onslaught, reminiscent of a relentless hailstorm, driven by guitar-driven vigour, deep, resonant vocals, and rhythmic undercurrents that beckon listeners to the dance floor. Seamlessly blending atmospheric post-punk with the raw energy of gothic rock, The City Gates showcase their prowess in crafting an immersive soundscape that captivates from start to finish.
The accompanying music video, which features MADOC, TWEAX, and Dino Chauvette contributing their talents to the visuals and lighting, serves as a haunting visual counterpart to the song’s turbulent nature. The video is filmed in a dimly lit space, with swinging lightbulbs adding to the eerie atmosphere, enveloping the band in an ethereal glow that intensifies the song’s turbulent energy.
