Montreal’s Music Elite to Unite for Laurel Canyon Benefit – WIN TICKETS!

Some of Montreal’s most respected musicians will gather at the historic Grand Salle this Thursday for “Carry On: The Songs of Laurel Canyon,” a benefit concert supporting wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles.

The evening will feature an impressive roster including Brad Barr of The Barr Brothers, Murray Lightburn of The Dears, producer Howard Bilerman, Shane Murphy, and members of Plants and Animals alongside the alt-country collective El Coyote. The performers will interpret the rich musical legacy of Laurel Canyon, the storied Hollywood Hills neighbourhood that fostered some of the most influential artists of the 20th century, from Joni Mitchell to The Eagles.

Also appearing at the event are Leela Baum and Tom Shemer of The Damn Truth, who have just returned from performing on The Legends of Rock Cruise alongside Alice Cooper and Styx. The husband-wife duo is riding a wave of momentum ahead of their self-titled album release on March 14, produced by Grammy winner Bob Rock.

For your chance to win a pair of tickets, answer the following question:

Which 1970 album, recorded by a Laurel Canyon resident, features the song “Our House” that directly references life in the Canyon?

Email steve@montrealrocks.ca with your answer before noon on March 13 for a chance to win.

“This neighbourhood gave birth to a sound that defined a generation,” notes Lightburn. “The songs from that era continue to resonate because they speak to universal experiences in a deeply personal way.”

The intimate art deco venue will accommodate just 200 attendees for what promises to be a singular musical experience. All proceeds will benefit nouswithoutyou.la and musicares.org, organizations supporting those affected by the devastating California wildfires.

There will also be raffle prizes during the 20-minute intermission, including Canadiens tickets, a signed Saku Koivu jersey, dinner at the Île-de-France restaurant next to the concert room & much more.

The concert represents a significant moment of solidarity between Montreal’s diverse music community and their Los Angeles counterparts. It’s a reminder of how artistic communities can transcend geographical boundaries in times of crisis.

Tickets are priced at $75 and available through feverup.com. The event takes place Thursday, March 13 at 7:30 PM at 1500 Robert Bourassa.
