Montreal singer-songwriter Kelly-Ann is gearing up to release her debut EP, “Breakup Songs Vol. 1,” on May 17th. The five-song collection explores the emotional rollercoaster of a breakup, taking listeners on a journey through anger, mourning, hope, and self-discovery.

Each song on the EP acts as a chapter in this narrative, with distinct musical textures reflecting the shifting emotional landscape. “Let You Go,” the first single released in 2023, sets the tone with its powerful vocals and enveloping instrumentation.

A departure from the rest of the EP, “Rebound” is a French-language track described by Kelly-Ann as the “most pleasant part of a romantic breakup.” The song boasts a lighter feel and a more ambitious arrangement, incorporating rock and “sensual” elements.

The string quartet featured throughout the EP takes center stage in “July,” the album’s closing track. This song, devoid of a traditional chorus, underscores the unpredictable nature of love.

“Breakup Songs Vol. 1” is a deeply personal project showcasing Kelly-Ann’s ability to blend soulful introspection with raw vulnerability. While the EP delves into emotional turmoil, it ultimately celebrates self-awareness and the process of healing.

Kelly-Ann’s impressive resume includes appearances on “L’École des Fans” and “La Voix,” where she reached the quarter-finals. She has also shared the stage with Celine Dion.

Fans can catch Kelly-Ann’s launch show for “Breakup Songs Vol. 1” on May 14th, a few days before the official release, at le Ministère in Montreal.
