Montreal’s garage-synth-punk duo DVTR is set to drop their latest release, Bonjour (Bis), marking their first foray into vinyl and CD formats. This deluxe edition builds upon their 2023 debut EP, Bonjour, which propelled them from local upstarts to international tour veterans in less than a year. Featuring 11 raw tracks, the EP is a mix of punchy, confrontational lyrics and unapologetically fast-paced DIY punk influences, echoing the likes of the B-52s and Jay Reatard.
Since their formation, DVTR, comprised of Demi Lune and Jean Divorce, have garnered significant attention across Canada and beyond, earning a spot in the 2023 Cult MTL’s Top 30 Montreal Songs list and receiving Quebec’s GAMIQ award for Best Videoclip. They’ve also made waves overseas, taking their frenetic energy to stages in Europe, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, and the U.S. — a surprising feat considering they had released only 15 minutes of music at the time.
DVTR’s live shows are infamous for their raw energy and confrontational style. Known for unpredictable stage antics, they embody a blend of humour and rage that transcends language barriers. On Bonjour (Bis), they continue to explore themes of rebellion with tracks that touch on social issues ranging from anti-Olympics sentiment to critiques of authority, underscoring the group’s pointed, DIY ethos.
Looking ahead, DVTR is gearing up for their biggest Montreal headline show to date at the legendary Foufounes Électriques this December. The venue, a bastion of alternative culture in the city, is an ideal setting for the duo’s no-holds-barred sound and in-your-face performance style. With the expanded reach of their upcoming release, Demi Lune and Jean Divorce seem poised to bring their infectious brand of garage-punk to even wider audiences.
