Mara Tremblay has released Sauvage et libre, the first single and title track from her ninth album, due January 22, 2027 via Audiogram.
The song opens the album and was written by Stéphane Lafleur. Tremblay sings it with people in mind who need to free themselves from whatever is weighing them down, finding comfort in small things such as the wind in her hair, the smell after rain and allowing herself to embrace happiness.
“If Stéphane wrote it for me, that means I can sing it for others,” Tremblay says. “I like to think the song can help them free themselves from what feels heavy. To do themselves some good. To think about themselves a little.”
The image of buying herself flowers runs through the song as something broader than the gesture itself. Its direct melody is set against fuzz guitar from Olivier Langevin, giving the track some grit beneath its softer message of self-acceptance.
Tremblay has been part of the Quebec music scene since the mid-nineties. She came up through Les Colocs as a violinist and multi-instrumentalist before going solo with Le chihuahua in 1997. Her catalogue since then includes Papillons de nuit, Tu m’intimides and Cassiopée.
A first run of Quebec shows has also been announced for 2027:
