Just For Laughs, the globally recognized comedy festival, is set to continue under new ownership as it enters its 42nd year. ComediHa!, which officially acquired the Just For Laughs brand in June, has confirmed the dates for several upcoming festivals, including the flagship JFL Montreal event scheduled for July 16-27, 2025.
The acquisition by ComediHa! marks a significant transition for Just For Laughs, a festival that has become synonymous with the global comedy scene since its inception in Montreal. Sylvain Parent-Bédard, president of ComediHa!, emphasized the company’s commitment to honouring the festival’s legacy while also steering it into a new era. “We respect the rich history of Just For Laughs and are eager to bring our vision to these festivals,” Parent-Bédard said. “Our programming team, which includes both returning and new members, is working hard to craft lineups that will appeal to long-time fans and newcomers alike.”
Nick Brazao, Head of Programming, highlighted the festival’s direction under ComediHa!’s leadership, pointing out the balance between tradition and innovation. “We’re embracing the opportunity to evolve Just For Laughs,” Brazao stated. “Our aim is to curate a lineup that celebrates the best in comedy, from seasoned performers to emerging talent. The industry is changing, and we’re excited to showcase what the future holds.”
With the Montreal festival being a cornerstone of the comedy world, the upcoming event is expected to draw significant attention. ComediHa! is keen to not only preserve the festival’s heritage but also to introduce new elements that reflect the current and future trends in comedy.
As ComediHa! gears up for its first year at the helm, the focus remains on blending the festival’s long-standing traditions with fresh perspectives. Further details on the festival’s programming and other upcoming initiatives, including live tours and television projects, are expected in the coming months.
