Introducing… Steve Creep & The Wildcards

During the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020–21, musician Steve Creep collaborated with Tom Shemer of the Montreal band The Damn Truth. This partnership led to the creation of a four-song EP, with Steve performing all instruments and vocals and Tom serving as producer and engineer.

In a move that reflects his admiration for artists like Prince and Tom Petty, who often combined their solo work with a band identity, Steve decided to release his solo record under a band name, thus forming “The Wildcards.” The band features a group of musicians personally selected by Steve for their unique talents and compatibility with his musical vision.

Scott Mitchell, a long-time musical collaborator of Steve’s, contributes with his distinctive bass sound and vocal harmonies. Drummer Will Laurin brings a wealth of touring experience and a versatile playing style to the mix. Completing the lineup is guitarist Phil Di Sessa, a rising talent known for his bluesy guitar style.

The music of Steve Creep & The Wildcards is described as a fusion of ’70s classic rock and classic punk mixed with the power pop hooks of the ’90s. Influences range from the harmonizing guitar leads of Cheap Trick and Thin Lizzy to the arena rock style of Kiss and even the punk vibes of The Clash and Green Day. The songs are characterized as catchy, straightforward, and energetic. The recording style of Tom Shemer, combined with the mastering skills of The Damn Truth’s Dave Traina, contributes to the EP’s distinct sound.

This project is presented as a celebration of Steve Creep’s love for rock and roll, blending various influences into a cohesive musical experience.

Steve Creep & The Wildcards play Le Ministere on Saturday December 9th.
