Hania Rani‘s performance in Montreal on Thursday evening offered a blend of captivating music, showcasing the artist’s remarkable talents and evoking a range of emotions in the audience.
Opening shortly after 8pm with “Oltre Terra,” Rani held a small radio to the microphone as she scrolled through the airwaves, setting a compelling tone for the evening. Her exceptional piano skills were a highlight, immersing her audience in a world of rich melodies and profound emotions.

Over the next ninety minutes, Rani performed a variety of compositions, including “24.03,” “Don’t Break My Heart,” and “Leaving.” Each piece underscored her ability to convey deep emotions through music, demonstrating her skill as a composer and performer.
A significant moment of the night was the collaboration with Patrick Watson for their song “Dancing With Ghosts.” The audience roared with delight as Watson arrived onstage for a seamless blend of their unique styles, resulting in a standout performance that was both memorable and musically rich.

Rani continued to impress with “Buka,” “Komeda,” and “Hawaii Oslo.” Her transitions between different musical moods and atmospheres were smooth and effective, further showcasing her adaptability and creative flair. Occasionally stopping to thank her fans, she kept the chat to a minimum and allowed the music to do the work.

The encore featured a surprising cover of “WhoMadeWho” by Abu Simbel. Rani’s interpretation added a unique twist to the song, demonstrating her ability to reinterpret and innovate within her musical repertoire. This choice was both intriguing and a testament to her artistic creativity.
