Gab Bouchard @ MTelus

On Friday night, Gab Bouchard crossed the mid-way point of his tour. Although his latest album, Grafignes, came out in August 2022, fans of Bouchard are still lining up to see it live. Since September, Bouchard and his crew have brought the show to as many corners of Québec as they can, with the final stop – Québec, Impérial Bell – scheduled for the end of March.

Bouchard’s opener was none other than “Canada’s Got Talent” semi-finalist, Alexandra Côté, and her four-legged friends, Tesla and Louka. Côté is a talented dog trainer, and under her guidance, Tesla and Louka have become brilliant dancers with a few other tricks up their sleeves (more like under their paws). The trio delighted the audience with some seriously cool dance moves, a demonstration of Tesla’s powerful sense of smell, and impressive high jumping. What could possibly outdo that?

Soon after, Bouchard reminded us all why we had braved the cold to be there. Grafignes is a joyful album full of country rhythms and rock and roll highs. However, the fast-approaching winter weather was clearly on Bouchard’s mind and not just mine. During the performance of “Neige” his crew creatively made it snow from the ceiling.

Last but not least, I had the honour of coming across a group of girls in the front row sporting fake moustaches that rivalled Bouchard’s. They do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
