Gojira Teases Progress on Upcoming Album Following Landmark Olympic Performance

French metal band Gojira, fresh off their historic performance at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, has provided an update on their highly anticipated new album. This album will follow up their 2021 release, Fortitude, which was a critical and commercial success, further cementing their place as a leading force in metal.

During an interview on Loudwire Nights, frontman Joe Duplantier discussed the ongoing process of creating the album. While he refrained from revealing specific details, Duplantier did share that the band is deep into the creative process. “We’re in the middle of it, and until it’s completed, it’s hard to tell people what it’s gonna be. And also, I don’t want to. I want people to be surprised,” he said. He emphasized the band’s commitment to delivering something meaningful and impactful, noting that they are “very ambitious in terms of writing songs and the quality of it.”

The timing of this update comes just weeks after Gojira’s groundbreaking performance at the Paris Olympics, where they became the first metal band to ever perform at the Games. Their rendition of “Ah, Ça Ira!”—a song from the French Revolution—alongside opera singer Marina Viotti, was one of the most talked-about moments of the ceremony. Set against the backdrop of the historic Conciergerie, their performance was marked by striking visuals that included beheaded figures representing Marie Antoinette. Despite some controversy on social media, the performance was a major success, significantly boosting the band’s streaming numbers.

This spike in popularity has only heightened anticipation for Gojira’s upcoming album. Duplantier’s comments suggest that the band is aiming to build on the success of Fortitude with a project that takes their music to new heights. “We wanna take a clear step forward and upward with this album,” he said, indicating that fans can expect a bold evolution in their sound.
