Ghostly Kisses Get Political with New Single, Crimson

Dream-Pop Duo Ghostly Kisses Unveils New Single “Crimson”

Montreal-based dream-pop outfit Ghostly Kisses are back with a new single, “Crimson,” the latest glimpse into their upcoming sophomore album, Darkroom, due out May 17th via Akira Records.

Following the ethereal “Keep It Real” and amidst the buzz of their upcoming headline tour, “Crimson” presents a more forceful side of Ghostly Kisses. The song grapples with themes of individual rights and freedom, a timely message in today’s social climate.

Produced by Oli Bayton (known for his work with Rachel Chinouriri, Olivia Dean, and others), “Crimson” layers airy vocals from Margaux Sauvé over a percussive dreamscape punctuated by orchestral flourishes.

“We wanted to couple the intense lyrics with an equally intense musical production,” Sauvé explains. “‘Crimson’ delves into the challenges individuals face in expressing their true selves, drawing inspiration from real-life stories shared through our ‘Box of Secrets’ initiative, as well as the fight for women’s freedom in Iran.”

The song builds in intensity, mirroring the growing strength of a movement. “The verses are sung by one voice,” says Sauvé, “but as the message comes through – ‘I know it’s not us’ – it’s progressively joined by more and more voices, a metaphor for how a movement starts.”

Ghostly Kisses will perform at Church of the Gesu in Montreal on May 23.
