Get The Shot Announce Departure of Vocalist

After sixteen years of ferocious shows and uncompromising releases, Quebec City’s hardcore heavyweights Get The Shot have officially parted ways with founding vocalist Jean-Philippe Lagacé. The decision, announced via a heartfelt post on the band’s social media, marks the end of an era for the group, whose evolution from basement gigs to international festival stages has been defined in no small part by Lagacé’s commanding presence.

Citing scheduling conflicts related to Lagacé’s career as a teacher, the band explained that the demands of full-time touring have grown increasingly difficult to reconcile. “Even though we successfully built this band working around JP’s teaching commitments for years, it became increasingly difficult for the rest of the band to be content with restricting touring to the same specific moments each year,” the statement reads. “As GTS keeps evolving, more opportunities present themselves and it simply demands more flexibility from us all.”

Formed in 2009, Get The Shot quickly carved out a name for themselves within the hardcore and metalcore scenes with a no-frills sound that pulled as much from thrash as it did from beatdown. Albums like Infinite Punishment and Merciless Destruction have showcased a band as comfortable in the mosh pit as on a European festival stage, sharing bills with the likes of Comeback Kid, Nasty, and Deez Nuts. Their unrelenting live shows have made them a fixture at events such as Hellfest, Heavy Montréal, and Metal Frenzy.

Lagacé’s departure is far from the end. Guitarist Olivier Roy will step up as the band’s new vocalist, a move that maintains the band’s tight-knit energy and keeps their 2025 touring schedule intact. It’s a rare pivot that feels more like a reconfiguration than a reset.

“We are extremely proud of the music we’ve created with JP and how far GTS has come,” the band added, extending gratitude for his “creative input, dedication and passion throughout the years.”
