As we approach the 38th edition of Gatineau’s Festival des Montgolfieres (FMG), anticipation builds for what has become Quebec’s most uniquely multisensory music event. Set for August 27-31, 2025, at Parc de la Baie, this year’s festival promises to continue its tradition of blending atmospheric spectacle with sonic diversity.
Last year’s edition drew record crowds—an estimated 200,000 attendees across five days—and completely sold out of multi-day passes before gates even opened. The 2025 lineup appears calibrated to repeat this success, featuring an intriguing mix of international heavyweights and homegrown talent.
Headliners include Florida rap veteran Flo Rida alongside Canadian pop sensation Alessia Cara, while Quebec’s musical identity remains strongly represented through acts like Éric Lapointe, Roxane Bruneau, and 2Frères. Perhaps most intriguing is the booking of indie-pop outfit TALK, whose atmospheric soundscapes seem particularly apt for a festival where music literally floats between sky and earth.

The programming continues FMG’s thoughtful multigenerational approach. Thursday’s Comedy Gala featuring Dominic Paquet and Pierre Hébert acknowledges that festivals needn’t be exclusively music-focused, while Saturday’s late-night set from Jay Scøtt caters to night owls seeking something beyond mainstream fare.
What distinguishes FMG from the increasingly homogeneous festival landscape isn’t just its musical curation but its integration with the balloon spectacle. Weather permitting, morning and evening launches create a surreal backdrop for performances, while the Night Glows—where tethered balloons illuminate in rhythm—transform the festival grounds into something approaching visual poetry.
Having generated approximately $15 million in regional economic impact last year, FMG has established itself as culturally and financially significant to the Outaouais region. With 70% of attendees hailing from the area, this remains a festival deeply connected to its community roots while still attracting 30% of visitors from further afield.
