FME is all about the future of music. Who will be the next big artist or band playing at a festival or concert near you? They will probably have played FME in the months prior.
FME is about discovering new talent, and turning a whole city into a musical oasis. Secret shows announced 1 hour prior, multiple venues pulsating with amazing sounds, and Quebec hospitality are what attracts so many music fans to venture so far away.
Some of the bands I’m looking forward to catching at this years FME are the following in order of appearance.
BODEGA
Post Punk meets Indie meets Art Rock…BODEGA from New York City has a catchy sound that is sure to be amazing live.
BODEGA performs Thursday during the opening event.
TVOD (Television Overdose)
Post-Punk from Brooklyn will help close out the first night but you can catch them at L’Esco on August 28th!
NOBRO
MontrealRocks local favorites, NOBRO will blow the roof off any venue they play, so not to be missed.
AUS!Funkt
I will do my best to stay up late to catch the 1h30 set by Montreal’s Post-Punk-Disco Inferno.
Peter Dreams
Friday starts off with Peter Dreams, the solo project of July Talk’s Peter Dreimanis.
Galaxie
Digging the sounds of Galaxie from Montreal.
ADA ODA
I better learn Italian for this Post-Punk offering from across the pond in Brussels.
Feeling Figures
Big hit of 90s nostalgia from this Montreal band.
Marinate
Saturday will again have a few 5 à 7 events, but Marontate seems to be the one that I want to see with some Dark-Folk.
Shunk
Rock with a wallop of Punk in the mix. Seems like a good recipe.
Lemongrab
More Montreal Punk inspired by their sojourn in Berlin.
PyPy
Psychedelic Garage Punk. There is something irresistible about this sound.
Birds in Row
Post-Hardcore, Post-Metal and Punk return to form from this Laval band.
Turbine
I will be dancing at this one!
Kaya Hoax
Irresistible, like a Hip-Hop version of MIA.
Erik Fines
Montreal’s own Erik Fines will surely start Sunday 5 à 7 with an smile and good tunes.
Li’l Andy
A trip. back in time with some 30s inspired tunes.
Petite Amie
Intriguing band from Mexico City who sing both in Spanish and perfect French!
The Brooks
Funky ending to the event, we will be dancing to the The Brooks.
Patche
For those that won’t want to quit just yet, the last band will bring some improvisational Electronic music to close out FME.
Conclusion
What started as a simple top 5 bands to see at FME, turned into 20. I now realize that I will be staying up late, walking from venue to venue to catch not only these 20 bands, but many others that are noteworthy to pay attention to. Check out the FME 2024 Playlist on Spotify and hear for yourself why this is a must-attend event for any music lover.
