EXCLUSIVE: Montreal Indie-Folk band, Little Misty, release first single from sophomore album

Fresh off the high of performing an official showcase at Folk Alliance International, Montreal Indie-Folk band Little Misty this week release Windmill, the first single off their forthcoming second album, Nowhere Land, which is set to be released in April 2023.

Montreal Rocks is pleased to have the exclusive on the new song, which you can check out below:

This song is a story crafted from the point of view of the old windmill on the hill, which witnesses generations pass by as he keeps spinning through the seasons. Windmill shows off Little Misty’s undeniable talent and gives us a taste of what’s to come on the new album. Vocalist Kathryn Samman and guitarist Francois Jalbert deliver soft, captivating vocals and dynamic instrumental compositions, respectively.

Windmill has a calming atmosphere that draws you in, as well as a distinct and steady tone that is rarely heard in the folk world. The band runs on Jalbert’s guitar and some vibrant fiddle work, both of which are master classes in technical skill to match the compelling dual harmonies. Their music has an ethereal quality, a feeling of nostalgia, a jazzy undertone, a hint of indie rock, and clear overtones of chanson française.

Little Misty is an indie-folk band founded in Montreal, Quebec and led by Kathryn Samman (vocals) and François Jalbert (guitar). Although firmly grounded in folk music, their repertoire mixes indie-rock with broader compositions. From cinematic landscapes to wailing guitar solos, the group explores a full range of musical possibilities, always searching for innovative ways to serve their storytelling.

They surrounded themselves with some of the finest musicians in town, including Tommy Gauthier on violin, Cédric Dind-Lavoie on bass and Mark Nelson on drums. After releasing their first eponymous record in 2020, the group surprisingly managed to tour between the waves and write and produce Nowhere Land.

Windmill is available on all streaming services as of February 17.
