Errant Records Launches in Montreal

A new player in Canada’s independent music scene is making its Montreal debut next month. Errant Records and Management, a trans-owned and LGBTQ+ led label, will officially launch at L’Escogriffe on September 10, in partnership with POP Montreal.

The showcase brings together a lineup that reflects the label’s eclectic vision. Los Angeles-based vocalist and producer Maiah Manser, whose cinematic pop sound has drawn comparisons to St. Vincent, will share the stage with Japanese-Canadian guitarist and songwriter Hiroki Tanaka, best known as a former member of the JUNO and Polaris-nominated group YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN. They will be joined by Montreal’s own Rae Spoon, a long-standing figure in the city’s queer music community, along with local pop artist Sarah Feldman.

The Montreal event follows a launch night in Toronto on September 9 at The Drake Hotel. The two-city rollout underscores the label’s cross-country ambitions while also rooting its presence firmly in Canada’s cultural hubs.

Errant Records was founded by Dani Oliva, a Toronto-based entertainment attorney and business strategist with more than two decades of experience in music law and artist advocacy. Oliva, who has worked with Grammy winners, Billboard chart-topping songwriters, and companies such as Kaytranada and Aminé’s Kaytraminé project, established Errant with an explicit mandate: to provide artist-first representation in an industry that has often struggled with inclusivity.

This fall, Oliva will also appear at POP Montreal’s symposium, speaking on panels about the unique challenges faced by trans artists when navigating international borders. Sessions include “Navigating Borders While Trans,” featuring Ashanti aka Polaris Prize winner Backxwash, and a workshop on visas for musicians, co-led by Montreal artist Thanya Iyer.

Errant Records Launch – L’Escogriffe, Montreal, September 10, 8:30 pm.
