The electric atmosphere at MTELUS in Montreal on September 11th was nothing short of extraordinary. As the crowd gathered in anticipation of a night filled with music, three remarkable bands took the stage and delivered a memorable experience.
Arriving at the venue around 8 pm, just as Conquer Divide started their set, I was immediately struck by the sight of a sold-out crowd that spanned generations. People in their thirties, some sporting headbands and wigs reminiscent of Electric Callboy’s iconic music videos, filled the venue. Parents and their kids had come together to witness this musical spectacle. Conquer Divide ignited the evening with a set that showcased both clean and scream vocals, leaving the crowd begging for more. Their high-energy performance culminated in a memorable moment as they took a picture with the audience, encouraging us all to join in a cathartic “1, 2, 3, F**k you!” chant.
Following Conquer Divide’s electrifying set, Solence took the stage, their white-clad presence exuding a vibe that resonated with Electric Callboy’s style. Their performance featured unique segments, including an “anger management” exercise that had the crowd screaming in unison to release their stress just before launching into the song “Blow Up.” The catchy and enjoyable “Solence” had the audience chiming in with Ghostbusters’ iconic “Who you gonna call?” catchphrase. With a keytar in the mix and an overall captivating stage presence, Solence proved themselves to be a worthy addition to the lineup.
The anticipation reached its peak during the 30-minute wait for Electric Callboy to hit the stage. The crowd had already started singing “We Got The Moves” in unison, setting the stage for an unforgettable performance. As the lights dimmed, the band treated us to a fun video intro, featuring a clapping test conducted by a flight attendant to get the audience into the groove.
Electric Callboy’s set was a rollercoaster of fun, delivering moments of high energy and unexpected surprises. In addition to their original hits, they delighted the crowd with three unexpected covers: “Everytime We Touch” by Cascada, “Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen, and “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys. The entire audience was pleased, singing along, jumping, and even indulging in some friendly spirits. Some may have gotten a bit too carried away, but it was all in good spirit as everyone radiated happiness and camaraderie.
The first encore was a high-energy affair featuring “Pump It” and “Mindreader,” keeping the audience on their feet and craving for more. Finally, the second encore, “We Got the Moves,” was the perfect ending to a night filled with electrifying music and an atmosphere of pure joy.
This concert was more than just a night of music; it was an experience filled with diverse sounds, unexpected moments, and a sense of unity that transcended generational boundaries. Conquer Divide’s multinational presence, Solence’s captivating style and Electric Callboy’s Tekkno World Tour extravaganza combined to create a musical journey that left everyone in attendance with unforgettable memories. If you missed this show, you missed out on an electrifying experience that brought people of all ages together to celebrate the power of live music.
