Over the next 2 weeks we’ll be counting down the days to Montreal’s premier rock and metal festival, Heavy Montreal
Each day we’ll highlight a band from the bill we think you should check out over the weekend of August 7-9, and what better way to start than with Quebec’s long time death metal machine, GORGUTS!?
Gorguts will be making an appearance on day one of this year’s festival. Originally formed in 1989, Gorguts have been pushing the boundaries of extreme music, fueled by numerous tragic circumstances that have struck deeply within the fabric of the band. Drummer Steve MacDonald, a long time sufferer of depression, committed suicide in 2002 and Steve Hurdle, best known for his eclectic guitar work on the bands acclaimed “Obscura”, passed away from surgical complications in early 2012. Through all the negative, Gorguts have continued to be at the forefront of the extreme and have continuously catapulted themselves into unexplored territory, placing themselves among the elite of progressive extreme music.
Gorguts returned with “Colored Sands”, their most immense record to date in 2013 and earned themselves a Juno nomination for their effort. Music fans interested in finding out how far the limits of a guitar can be pushed, familiarized yourselves with the works of Luc Lemay and Gorguts.
