Montreal’s Avril Jensen released her French-language EP Parfois, les jours de vent on Friday, one year after her debut album Is Any of This Real? arrived on October 4, 2024. The six-track project, produced and mixed by Olivier Girard, leans toward acoustic arrangements while maintaining the emotional directness that marked her earlier English-language work.
The EP includes two previously released singles: “j’ai oublié mon nom” and “CRASH,” the latter featuring Montreal rapper FouKi. The remaining tracks explore themes of displacement, loss, and friendship through a mix of folk-influenced instrumentation and hip-hop elements.
Opening track “La mer” addresses the impulse to leave everything behind during periods of doubt. “Le précédent” examines grief over a departed relationship, with guest vocals from K!RA OJI adding a second perspective to the melancholic production. “Les nuages” emerged from a conversation about cloud-watching. “I forgot my name,” Jensen said about another track, came from a summer road trip and deals with fractured identity.

“CRASH,” which appeared in September, speaks to repeated failure and persistence. FouKi‘s verse complements Jensen‘s delivery on a song about continuing despite setbacks. The title track closes the EP with its refrain “we got it, we are sensational,” offering a contrast to the introspective material that precedes it.
The 23-year-old musician has built momentum since her 2021 debut single “Attends” featuring EXKY. Her 2022 EP COLORS earned a GAMIQ nomination, while “van gogh” won the SOCAN Foundation Award for Young Canadian Songwriter. She reached the quarter-finals of La Voix in 2023 and has collaborated with Sarahmée and opened for The Franklin Electric.
Jensen will perform material from the EP on November 13 at Verre-Bouteille in Montreal alongside Erwan as part of Coup de cœur francophone.
The EP is available on streaming platforms now.
