Land Of Talk Shares “Dogs” & “Cats”▪

Montreal’s Land Of Talk, the long-running indie rock project led by Lizzie Powell, has released the double single Dogs and Cats from its forthcoming sixth album, LASTS. The tracks appear consecutively on the album, which is due 13 November. Saddle Creek will release it outside Canada, with Next Door Records handling the Canadian release. Both songs have videos directed by Ana-Maria Espino Trudel. They follow the album’s lead single, 4:44.

Powell says Dogs began as an attempt to capture the way listening to The Cure makes them feel. “I wasn’t sure exactly what that meant, but was thinking it would lend itself to looking back on loves lost, yearning, regret. What came out was a simmering rage borne from living under the patriarchy,” they said.

On Cats, Powell says the keyboard and percussion parts brought to mind cats breaking into the studio after hours. “When I listened back to the finished track, I found those parts unintentionally sounded not unlike mischievous cats breaking into our studio after hours and jumping all over the instruments,” they said. Powell describes the lyrics as the result of a more free-flowing process, and songwriting as a “deeply personal and sacred process and offering.”

The eight-song LASTS was written and produced by Powell and recorded in a cabin in rural Harrington, Quebec, with collaborators Michael Feuerstack (bass, pedal steel, additional vocals, engineering and mixing) and Michael Belyea (drums and percussion). It follows 2023’s Performances.
