It was a packed Sunday night for the return of Revocation at the legendary venue Foufs. I was genuinely surprised by the huge turnout for this bill. The atmosphere in the venue was electric and the crowd was ready to have a good time.
I was running a bit late so I ended up missing Vomit Forth, a band I have seen a few times already. They are a fantastic new old school death metal act that infuses a touch of hardcore energy into their sound. They are absolutely worth discovering if you are not already familiar with them. Their 2024 album Terrified of God stands among the best extreme releases of last year.

Inferi was up next and the fans were absolutely going wild for them. They are clearly a favourite of the Montreal crowd. They destroyed the stage with their brand of melodic technical death metal. They gave the audience everything metal fans crave with blisteringly fast guitars, intricate solos, relentless drum work, and a powerful vocal performance.

I must admit that I was personally there that evening for Judiciary, one of my favourite crossover bands, mixing both styles in a way that feels natural. They bring the technicality and brutality of metal while combining it with the heavy moshing energy and raw anger of hardcore. They arrived in top form and delivered plenty of crushing mosh beats that sent the crowd moving. It was a strong performance and I sincerely hope we get to see them return to Montreal.

Revocation headlined the evening while on tour promoting their newest album New Gods, New Masters. The crowd began chanting the band’s name as soon as the lights dimmed and everyone was ready to get rowdy. Revocation opened with the new track Cronenberged and the room immediately erupted into movement and moshing. For any guitar player this felt like a dream, since lead guitarist and vocalist Dave Davidson is an absolute force on stage, shredding intricate and beautiful solos while the rest of the band maintained the sheer brutality of their thrash and death infused sound. I was particularly impressed with the new track The All Seeing, which begins with a ripping guitar solo before dropping into a heavy stomping rhythm.
The fans definitely got a Sunday night to remember as every band delivered an intense evening of technical metal that kept the crowd in motion from start to finish. Each group brought something unique and exciting to the table and there was truly something for everyone in the room.
