Montreal’s Cell Press braces for impact with new album “Cages”

A new chapter is unfolding with noise-rock metal merchants Cell Press as they gear up to release their first full-length album, “Cages,” on March 8, 2024.

Their music is a robust blend of noise-rock, heavily influenced by hardcore and metal genres. The band’s members bring a rich background, having been part of a diverse range of punk, metal, and hardcore groups, including The Great Sabatini, Biipiigwan, I Hate Sally, The Chariot, Animal Ethics, Architect, Swarm Of Spheres, and Angles. This eclectic experience contributes to their unique and intense sound.

“Cages” follows their self-titled EP, continuing their trajectory of gritty, heavy soundscapes while introducing a hint more melody into the mix. This evolution, while subtle, marks a significant step in the band’s musical journey. The album’s lead single, “Things They Do In France,” is a powerful track that explores themes of lost love and the complexities of toxic relationships. Beginning with a surprisingly melodic riff, the song quickly plunges listeners into a tumultuous sonic journey, echoing the unpredictable nature of its subject matter.

“This song starts off with probably the most melodic riff in our catalog, then quickly turns into a fast and bumpy ride throughout the rest of the way. The structure of this song is similar to a toxic relationship as it starts off smooth then turns into an unpredictable cacophony of violent riffage, drumming, and screaming. There is also a double entendre to this song name and lyrics referring to the way Quebec both linguistically and culturally traditionally looked down upon by our upper-class friends in France.”

The album will be available through multiple labels, including The Ghost Is Clear Records and Ancient Temple Recordings for vinyl editions and No List Records for the cassette format.
