Montreal’s Elephant Stone just released their new single “La Fusée du Chagrin” out today, from their first French EP: Le Voyage de M. Lonely dans la lune.
Now in existence for 13 years, Elephant Stone is the psych-pop creation of Rishi Dhir, along with long-time collaborators Miles Dupire (drums) and Robbie MacArthur (guitar), and Jason Kent (keyboard/guitar). The legendary band has already released five critically acclaimed albums, toured extensively in North America and Europe, been nominated for the prestigious Polaris prize and received praise from NPR, Brooklyn Vegan, Consequence of Sound, Rolling Stone, Clash Magazine, and more. As a highly respected sitar player, Dhir has also collaborated with indie-rock icon Beck and legendary cult bands like The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
Le Voyage de M. Lonely dans la lune, scheduled for release on February 18, 2022, is sung entirely in French. This EP marks a new turn for the band, historically known for their English-language songs. According to Rishi Dhir, this EP is a love letter to Montreal, Quebec, and more broadly to all French-speaking fans here and abroad. It was built throughout the pandemic, with Dhir working with Félix Dyotte on composition and his longtime musicians on the recording.
The intense, sci-fi-inspired single “La Fusée du Chagrin” tells the story of Mr. Lonely boarding a spaceship to the moon.
