This tour follows the release of the band’s latest album, Wild God, which has already made an impression on global charts, debuting at No. 5 on the U.K. Albums Chart and No. 2 on Australia’s ARIA Albums Chart. Produced by Cave himself alongside longtime collaborator Warren Ellis, the album has a rich lineup of contributors, including Luis Almau and Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood, who joined the band as touring bassist during their recent U.K. and European dates. Greenwood’s addition comes as Martyn Casey steps back due to health concerns.
Cave spoke candidly about the creative process behind Wild God, describing the album as a reflection of the band’s collective mood. “There is never a master plan when we make a record,” he said. “The records rather reflect back the emotional state of the writers and musicians who played them. Listening to this, I don’t know, it seems we’re happy.”
The Wild God Tour marks a significant return to the stage for Cave and his bandmates, who have been largely absent from North American venues for the past seven years. The group’s last North American tour in 2018 was a career-spanning affair, showcasing tracks from across their extensive discography. This time, fans can expect a more focused setlist featuring material from Wild God, though there’s always room for the unexpected with Cave, known for his improvisational stage presence and unique interpretations of classic songs.
