Montreal’s avant-garde outfit Bell Orchestre are back and pleased to reveal their signing to British independent label, Erased Tapes, for releases outside of Canada — ten years after the release of their last body of work.

The Montreal based group, who feature Sarah Neufeld and Richard Reed Parry from Arcade Fire amongst their six members, have previously set the blueprint for evocative, creative and sonically enriched instrumental music which defers from the often formulaic quiet-loud dynamics of post-rock music into something a whole lot more rewarding. Their first two records, 2005’s ‘Recording a Tape the Colour of the Light’ and 2009’s ‘As Seen Through Windows’ were very warmly received by critics for the cinematic scope and orchestration of their work. Whilst the band work on new material, they’re excited to sign with Erased Tapes internationally for future releases.

To celebrate the announcement of this new musical home, Bell Orchestre has shared a short film, IX: Nature That’s It That’s All., directed by band member Kaveh Nabatian who utilises 16mm processing and scans of footage from the British Pathe archives. Watch the visual soundtracked by their new piece of music below:

Erased Tapes founder Robert Raths has been a long-standing fan of the band and its individual members and is extremely pleased to welcome them to the label.

“I remember it so vividly. There was something that made me focus in on what Richard and Sarah (and Owen for that matter) were doing, whenever I paid attention to the Arcade Fire. I remember thinking ‘damn, who are these cats on multiple instruments, drumming on motorcycle helmets and scraping violins as if there’s no tomorrow?’ There was this raw, unfiltered energy about them that had an entire force of its own. Turns out this thing I was hearing in my head already had a name: Bell Orchestre. The world just wasn’t aware nor ready for it, yet.” — Robert Raths

Richard Reed Parry echoes this sentiment, stating:

“We are deeply pleased to have found such a good home for our music — Erased Tapes is a place where so much that’s impossible to categorize, and gorgeously unique music lives and thrives. And we’re thrilled to find ourselves in such a welcoming family of like-minded musical souls.” — Richard Reed Parry
