When I realised this show was gonna be on a Monday night I was bummed because I thought people wouldn’t show up, but when I arrived at Foufounes Électriques I realised I was in the wrong as I saw the how long the line of people waiting to get inside was. The doors opened a bit late and when I finally got in, I had already missed part of the first band…
Vitriol: The opener was Vitriol from Portland Oregon. Even though I got in late, I still had time to catch 3 songs and a half. Too bad I couldn’t hear more because their performance was excellent. They had a brutal death metal sound with plenty of lead melodies and guitar solos, but it’s actually the bassist’s per Adam Roethlisberger that stood out more to me because he had such a big and dynamic stage presence.
This excellent set was their first one in Montreal and I hope to see more of them when they come back.
Hideous Divinity: Next one Stage is an Italian band from Rome: Hideous Divinity. They came a long way to deliver some highly technical and violent riffs to the American metalheads. Everything sounded good, even the fastest and most technical parts were played nice and clean. Enrique Di Lorenzo’s growls brought a more violent and brutal side to the mix.
The stage was crowded with the 5 piece band and Vader’s drum that was already set up and took one-third of the stage, the guys didn’t have much space to move around but they were still putting a lot of energy into their performance.
Abysmal Dawn: Abysmal Dawn’s last album was released 6 years ago, so it was all joy for me when they announced they were gonna be part of this tour to promote the upcoming release of their new album. My expectations were high for this set because I saw them play in the past and I know just how good they can be. And they didn’t disappoint, every note was played with speed and precision, their sound is amazing live. Every instrumental part is played to perfection and the vocals of Charles Eliott could be heard loud and clear. Their set was mostly songs from their previous albums but they also played new songs that are yet to be released! ‘’Phylogenesis’’ will be released on April 17th, check it out, you won’t regret it.
Vader: The crowd is dense and people are getting excited as the guys from Vader come on stage. As soon as they start playing, everybody started moshing and/or headbanging to the music. They have some big thrash metal influence added to their death sound, which brings a catchy and energetic side to the mix.
The show was crazy, I don’t think the moshpit ever stopped during a song. Even tho they’ve been around since the 80’s, they are still just as crazy but just older. They still have a lot of energy to perform live and they are also still putting out new records.
Their next album Solitude In Madness will be out on may first, that will be their 12th full-length album.
