Toronto’s psychedelic outfit One Hundred Moons are offering a second taste of their upcoming EP “Take Two” with a surprising but captivating cover – the Spice Girls‘ “Viva Forever.”
This ethereal rendition follows their previously released shoegaze reimagining of Soundgarden‘s “4th of July,” solidifying the band’s unique approach to reimagining 90’s classics.
Their cover of “Viva Forever” might raise eyebrows at first, but upon hitting play, it becomes clear the track is a perfect match for their expertise. The original’s reflective tone and nostalgic air find a new home amidst the band’s subdued, reverb-laden instrumentation, creating a listening experience that’s both familiar and refreshingly new.
Singer/keyboardist Jen Vella tells us, “Covering ‘Viva Forever’ is a sense of humour thing – taking a pop song that was loved in the 90s and made completely different. The best covers are usually complete remakes of the original. Covering this song was a joke that turned serious.”

One Hundred Moons are known for their swirling soundscapes and energetic live shows. Their music blends shoegaze, dream pop, and post-rock influences, featuring cascading, reverb-heavy guitars, enchanting vocals, and hypnotic rhythms. They draw inspiration from both shoegaze veterans like My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive and the electronic experimentation of modern acts.
Formed in 2021, the four-piece – Collin Young, Jen Vella, Justin Hunt, and NJ Borreta – have quickly become a force in Toronto’s music scene. Their critically acclaimed debut album showcased their impressive technical skills and talent for crafting immersive sonic journeys.
“Take Two” promises a fresh spin on familiar territory. One Hundred Moons are set to deliver their signature brand of dreamy soundscapes to a new generation while revisiting beloved 90s anthems with a shoegaze twist. These are not just covers but reimaginings, morphing classics into something entirely new and relevant.

“Viva Forever” is available to stream April 4 on all major platforms. One Hundred Moons are set to embark on a series of live dates to promote “Take Two,” promising audiences an immersive experience into their dreamy, sonic universe.
