Mvll Crimes

Here to play for the very few people in Cafe Campus. The small crowd didn’t shake this band though; their lead singer started strong, her voice so clear and perfectly angry.
The band’s energy was a perfect start to the night, they sounded great playing together, with incredible chemistry that was clear as day. They thrashed around on stage, showing a huge amount of passion in their music.
I loved the vocalist’s voice. Her voice was low and gruff, but when she screamed, it rose in pitch and sounded a little bit like Kathleen Hanna from Bikini Kill.
Mvll Crimes’ set was so much fun; they had high energy the entire time and gave their performance their all despite the lack of attendance. They got the crowd excited for Dead Tired and The Dirty Nil and played an excellent set that had a clear and loud “Fuck the system” message.
Dead Tired

Man, did Dead Tired start off really strong. Right off the bat, they played heavy, in real good synchronization, and the lead singer was screaming into the microphone, his voice beautifully scratchy.
There isn’t a lot of lighting in Cafe Campus, not nearly as much as Petit Campus, so it was quite difficult to see the performers, but despite the lacklustre lighting, Dead Tired gave an incredible show to Montreal.

The audience shook their heads to the music, staring up ahead and watching the band members as they jumped around, interacting with each other as they played excellently together.
Each member up on stage oozed so much passion and talent. They sounded incredible, never missed a beat and effortlessly played with great intensity that was just intoxicating.
Dead Tired’s set was so much fun; it definitely got my blood pumping for the headlining set.
The Dirty Nil

Here with a perfectly dramatic entrance to Ride of the Valkyries, The Dirty Nil band members walked onto stage, greeting the audience as they took their spots on stage.
They wasted no time in getting their set started. Heavy bass accompanied by absolutely sick guitar riffs got the crowd instantly moving. They started their shoe on a high and heavy note with Celebration; vocals from members Luke Bentham and Sam Tomlinson filled the room along with everyone else singing along.

Their two voices complimented each other so nicely; they sounded clear and incredible. The chemistry in this band was just so much fun to see. They danced and thrashed around together and played perfectly as one unit, clearly always on the same page.
The venue wasn’t anywhere near capacity, but those in attendance clearly loved The Dirty Nil. They sang along to the lyrics and danced like no one was watching. They jumped around and shook their hair around, passionately screaming out each lyric as Bentham screamed along with them.

Around their third song on set, their sound technician brought up a tray of pumpkin spice shots from the bar. They took their shots then got into That’s What Heaven Feels Like, dedicating the song to their sound technician.
Tomlinson’s talent on bass was impeccable. His fingers danced along the fretboard like nothing, earning the cheering and screams that the crowd gladly threw their way.
They had great charisma up on stage. They reminded their audience about their new record Free Rein to Passions that they just released, and played a song from said record called Undefeated.

The Dirty Nil had great energy while on stage; they looked like they were having a lot of fun while performing. I was certainly having a lot of fun watching the show! I remember being a little kid in the back seat of my parents car as The Dirty Nil played on the CD player and my mum sang along. Now I finally got the chance to see them perform, and their show was just perfect.
Bentham told the audience that this show was the last show of their tour. “There is no other place better to end a tour than Montreal.” He said heartfully, which certainly got a lot of loud cheering in thanks. They played Wrestle Yü to Husker Dü, a song from their record Higher Power, released in 2016. The crowd went crazy for it.

They ended their intense set with Evil Side before taking their leave off stage. The crowd cheered and clapped for their return, and of course, the members of The Dirty Nil made their way back to stage for the encore. They played a really fun cover of I Wanna Be Your Dog by The Stooges to start off, with Dead Tired’s lead singer to sing up with them. Followed by their own Fuckin’ Up Young and finishing with another cover, Hit The Lights by Metallica to finish off the night.
This show was a fantastic line-up; each band performed perfectly and brought a huge amount of real fun energy to the table. The crowd loved every bit of it, and the performers seemed to love it as well. Hopefully, The Dirty Nil comes back to Montreal soon cause I know I’d definitely go see them again!
