The Black Keys Announce Peaches! for May

The Black Keys announced a new album today, setting a May 1 release date for Peaches! and sharing the lead single You Got to Lose. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney recorded the album live in one room while Auerbach’s father was dealing with a stroke and esophageal cancer, cutting vocals and instruments together with no separation between tracks.

The duo tracked everything in single takes, a deliberate move toward what Auerbach calls “shitty is pretty” production. Patrick Carney said the approach made mixing difficult but kept the sound raw and filthy. They weren’t planning an album at all. Auerbach needed something to occupy his mind while caring for his father, and the sessions became a way to scream through the fear and grief without overthinking the process.

You Got to Lose follows that logic straight through, with Auerbach singing “You’ve got to lose, you can’t win all the time” over stripped-down blues rock that sounds closer to their early work than anything they’ve done in years. The album arrives less than a year after No Rain, No Flowers, which produced the number one Billboard Alternative Airplay track The Night Before. Where that record leaned into polished arrangements, Peaches! pulls hard in the opposite direction.

The 10-track record pulls from the duo’s vinyl obsession and their Record Hang DJ nights, where Auerbach would hunt for 45s that might work as live material. Some of those discoveries made it onto Peaches! in reworked form, feeding into an album that treats spontaneity as structure and catharsis as craft. Easy Eye Sound and Parlophone Records will handle the release.

Peaches! is available for pre-order now.
