Montreal’s The Barr Brothers will release Let It Hiss this Friday, marking their first studio album since 2017. The band has shared the final single from the record, “Another Tangerine,” a track that leans into the folk-inflected sound that defined earlier work like “Even The Darkness Has Arms.”
Brothers Brad and Andrew Barr recorded the album largely as a duo in their Montreal studio, working with engineer Jon Low, whose credits include The National and Bon Iver. The 10-track collection features contributions from Elizabeth Powell of Land Of Talk, Ariel Engle of La Force, Klô Pelgag, Patrick Watson, and Jim James of My Morning Jacket.
Brad Barr describes “Another Tangerine” as the last song completed for the album, recorded live with nylon-string guitar, drums, and vocals. He notes the track came together after years of consideration, writing it during a period when he was “trying to renew my commitment to love” but lacked the perspective to complete it until changing his approach.
The band is currently supporting Mumford & Sons on their East Coast dates, including a performance at Montreal’s Bell Centre. Andrew Barr previously played drums for Mumford & Sons during their Rushmere tour. The Barr Brothers will begin their own headlining run in February 2026, with stops at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg, The Sinclair in Boston, Thalia Hall in Chicago, and MTELUS in Montreal.
Since forming in 2010, The Barr Brothers have received three Félix Awards in Quebec and three JUNO Award nominations for Adult Alternative Album of the Year. Their songs have appeared on shows including True Detective and Your Honor, and they’ve performed on The Late Show with David Letterman and CBS Saturday Morning.
Beyond The Barr Brothers, Andrew plays with Feist, Gracie Abrams, and Broken Social Scene, while Brad released the solo album The Winter Mission in 2022. The brothers also co-wrote “Live That Way Forever” for the film The Iron Claw.
Let It Hiss arrives Friday through Secret City Records.
